Douglas College is a provincial college with two major campuses in Vancouver, British Columbia serving over 10,000 students annually.
SonicCat Studios was invited to work with Douglas College to evaluate their website and develop a recommendation for a CMS that would give them the flexibility the needed while fitting their budget and still being robust enough to handle the traffic of a provincial post-secondary institution.
The following year we worked with Douglas to successfully migrate their website from a proprietary CMS into the Drupal CMS with no downtime. This work included the development of custom modules to support a live course catalogue, course schedules and transfer information from external services. We collaborated actively with Douglas for several years helping them modernize the website and build their knowledge of Drupal to make the system their own. Highlights of the work we performed include migrating all their online forms into custom Drupal webform system, rebuilding the custom middleware that populates their course catalogue and developing an online tuition estimator.
In addition to new site features, we were responsible for site responsiveness and up-time, developed a disaster recovery plan, performed a full accessibility overhaul to meet WCAG AA standards and provided documentation of all our work.
During our time with Douglas College we acted as a technical extension of the their very small and very smart digital marketing team. Our work with Douglas is an outstanding example of what can be achieved on a tiny budget with pragmatic teamwork.
