BCNet Moodle Shared Service

BCNet is a not-for-profit organization for B.C.'s higher education and research institutions that provides a shared digital services environment allowing smaller organizations access to enterprise tools.

Moodle is a leading learning management system (LMS) used by thousands of academic institutions and corporations worldwide to deliver online course content to learners. BCNet, a not-for-profit, collaborative organization dedicated to meeting the shared service needs of British Columbia’s higher education and research institutions, relies on SonicCat Studios for seamless Moodle implementation and support.

SonicCat Studios has managed the BCNet Moodle Shared Service since its inception over a decade ago. What began as a single Moodle instance supporting one university has grown into a robust platform serving over 16 universities, colleges, and academic institutions across British Columbia. Our expertise in open-source solutions ensures that BCNet’s Moodle service remains scalable, reliable, and adaptable to the dynamic needs of its users.

When the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated an abrupt shift to online learning in 2020, SonicCat was prepared to meet the surge in demand. We ensured seamless scalability, maintaining excellent uptime and service quality as institutions transitioned from delivering approximately 25% of their courses online to over 90%. This rapid expansion underscored our ability to adapt and support BCNet’s critical services during a pivotal moment for education.

Throughout this journey, SonicCat has consistently received high marks in client satisfaction surveys. Our comprehensive approach includes service architecture, system administration, and technical assistance for the Moodle application, ensuring that BCNet continues to deliver exceptional online learning experiences for its member institutions and their students.
